The film was defined in a depression-the time of the Year of London 1930 (the time period of the original novels), and was extracted from the wealth of materials in the books of additional seven PL Travers. In the story, Miquel (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) now grew up, with Michael, his three sons and his housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffered a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the life of the family of banks, along with the optimistic Lamplighter Street Jack (Miranda), using his unique magical abilities to help the family rediscover the Joy and the wonder of the missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces children to a new variety of colors and extravagant characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

Now an adult with three children, Treasurer Michael Banks discovers that his home will be recovered for five days unless he can afford a loan. His only hope is to find a missing script that shows evidence of valuable action that his father has left him for years. As everything seems lost, Michael and his sister have the surprise of their life when Mary Poppins-the nanny-beloved of childhood-who comes to save the day and take a family of banks in a magical adventure and fun.
